Jonathan Thomson currently studies at the Royal Scottish Academy of Music and Drama in Glasgow, Scotland. He has also studied at the famous Eastman School of Music in Rochester, New York, with Professor James Thompson. While in the USA he also had lessons with Raymond Mase (Head of Brass, Juilliard School of Music, NY) and Mark Gould (New York Metropolitan Opera). He has also had lessons wih Professor Anthony Plog at the Freiburg Hochschule fur Musik in Germany. He intends to go on to study the trumpet at post-graduate level at the Royal Northern College of Music in Manchester, England.

He is a highly experienced player and is in regular demand as a concert soloist and orchestral player with a repertoire ranging from Baroque and Classical concertos to avant-garde conceptual pieces.

Jonathan believes that Stomvi is the best instrument manufacturer in Europe and plays a Master Bb, Master C Master, and Master Flugel Horn.
